Sorry stony I put that link up after the fact, but we'll have to catch it on rerun I guess. I will have to do more research on Turkeys before we jump in I sure don't have the money to start fencing in parts of our property just to have a few Turkeys plus it's not flat land and is extremely hard to fence. But we'll see where there a will theres a way right

So back to broodys, Do Turkeys make good ones?

We have alot of wild turkeys around here too and lil ones so I guess Turkeys in general make good broodys.

Now wonder what it would be like to have Guineas?

Guineas are not fun in my book (mean wild things) and I have read they are generally aweful moms.

I know you are kidding, but guineas are also pretty stupid. A neighbor up the road had some. One day they traveled down the road, 1/2 mile to my house. 2 got hit by cars that day. Several others got hit in the following days. That farm went from having 14 guineas to having 3 in just a few short weeks. Mostly do to car hits. And that farm was on a dirt road. They all got hit on the main road. I decided there and then I would never have them. Besides ticks were the reason I wanted them, and my Sumatra's keep that well under control.

well this really annoys me in so many ways 2 of my hens were killed which two were they? the two that went broody! but this year i had a ex battery hen go broody she seemed really keen hopefully she might again next year

I thought about turkey also, but my neighbors are too close and will call on me if they go in their yard. My daughter wants guineas, but they wander too much.

The broody girls are in the garage in a big trough, the are a little unsettled, but so far have stayed where I put them. We'll see if anything hatches and hopefully I am done for the year. Most of the babies the broodies have hatched this year have been cockerels. I only have about 6 pullets out of 25 chicks. Oh well, we need dinner too. This has been to rowdiest bunch of chicks I have had so far. They have been puffing and bumping each other for about 3 weeks now. Silly little cockerels!

Kids are 12 weeks old tomorrow and broody Red Sex Link mama laid an egg today - with much fuss and fanfare. A very nice egg, I might add. The break from egg production was obviously VERY good for her. Kids are fending for themselves more and more each day but she still hangs with them when she isn't laying.

I have a bunch (Black Copper Marans, Cuckoo Marans, B/B/S Ameraucanas, and a Silkie) due to hatch in the incubator Sunday or Monday so my focus will be moving in the house now!!
