Miss Lydia, you already know my "luck" with muscovy hatches right? Well it's the same with my hens during broody season.

Not a pretty sight.

I know kuntry about your ducks trying to over populate the country, lol but didn't know your chickens were trying also. I HAVE to practice birth control here only because of space, which means I have to be the bad guy and go in and take all but a few eggs from the girls that want to sit. Dreading this spring when they give me the big brown eyes wanting to hatch out tons of chicks.

Hello,
Help experienced broody people! I have a silkie pullet who went broody 4 or 5 days ago. My question is...Do you think she could hatch out shipped eggs? And how well do shipped eggs hatch under a broody? I'm just concerned because she is a pullet, and this is her first time going broody. Plus I've never hatched eggs, broody or otherwise. I was thinking of ordering 6 or so eggs to put under her if she was in for the long haul?
Thanks

I'll try to get a pic of broody # 15 later. She got up and ate, drank, pooped

and went back to her nest. She also laid another egg this morning. So she is on 3 eggs. And I KNOW noone else even knows where her nest is. Plus she was still locked in the shop when she laid it. I'll see if I can get a decent pic of her to post. My cute little 7 month old Black Sumatra.

I have never put shipped eggs under a broody but alot do, I think once you recieve them you are suppose to let them rest 24 hours before putting them under your hen, Just don't over whelm her with too many, 6 would be good . Pullets make good broodys and she should do fine, all you'll have to do is sit back and relax.[yea right] lol, no seriously she Will do fine and you really won't have to do anything other than make sure she is in a secure place with food and water, she'll take care of the rest. AND don't forget to let us in on all the happenings. Congrats.

Same here, had 3 at once. Craziness. But I'll say this everyone knew who mama was, and the mama's knew who their babies were. I don't know how, but they did
