That bloody broody. Tried to slip her a couple chicks and all was well for about 30 minutes. Then one peeked its head out from her wing and she grabbed it and flung it. Took it away and watched. The next one she grabbed by the neck and wouldn't let go! Was shaking it like a dog and I had to grab her and force her beak open. She's been booted off the nest and is skulking around outside all miserable. Pacing the stable walls looking in and purring broody noises. At least I know she ate and drank. I'm pretty sure she's going to find another place to set.

I'm sorry it didn't work CheekyMare, sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. I had one of my broody ducks try to kill one of her own, Makes ya wonder. Hope the chicks are okay.

if she's anything like mine when they brood they are so spaced out I really think they think they are hiding. I hope she'll stay for the duration..

it's a drawer missing the front. These Sumatra's like the weirdest places to lay. She has been laying in this spot for about a month. And yup, she decided to sit here. I talk to her and say "I can't see you pretty girl"

. I'm pretty sure they think they are invisible as well!

I think they're all ok. I was pretty fast. She's young and I'm attributing it to that. Needs a little more practice. for now I'll just let her wander the walls and get chased by the roos.

THey're hatching! THey're hatching!!

DH, for some reason, thought he would check the chickens, who have been in bed since 4:30, and saw one egg zipping. Broody hen was lifting herself up off the egg to poke at it he said. She is a first time broody and doing a great job!

Hope to get a pic in the morning when it's fluffed and dry.

These eggs were set evening of Nov 5th--this chick is early ???

Maybe I don't have to go to THanksgiving dinner afterall!

I posted pictures of the non-broody kids, Miss Lydia but I think you may have missed them because you were so busy chatting it up with Stony - who has an actual broody - imagine!!
