Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

ok, after candling the eggs, the ones shipped from florida(we are on day 10), one has veins, a couple have air sacks on the large end, a couple have air sacks on the top- longwise, is that a problem? some have shadowing, but nothing obvious yet- poor flo is having a hard time keeping all of them under her, so i gave a few to Cindy, the cochin mama wantabe- she is a weird one, we'll be in the living room and she comes charging down the hall, and then after a few minutes goes back to the eggs...

I believe that's called enabling. And I'd be happy for it! U know... Canada's not too awful far. Hmmmm.

I had one hen that only hatched one and one that hatched 7. My question is it better to give the one baby to the one that has 7? The reason I ask is I lost the one baby. I had been thinking of doing that but I wasnt sure. What do you think?

I had a hen back in the summer that only hatched on chick and they did great, but during winter it maybe a different story. I still think mama would take care of chick fine. sorry you lost it.

also it may be diffcult to give the baby to another hen if it has bonded with the one that hatched it.
