well, she and flo are in the spare bathroom, at the far end of the house, so she pops out of her box, races down the hall to the tiled kitchen- power poops and then pokes around a bit. Flo the silky has solid poop, just strange-
 
Broody poop in the house? How do you survive the smell?!?!

I'm trying to finalize my plans for new broody coops before I start building them. I've concluded buying ready made would be sooooo much simpler!

I'm assuming this means the age at which they are capable of breeding successfully. But does this mean it is ideal. Aren't the eggs of pullets too small to produced a quality chick? What is the ideal age range? Also, most pullets are not broody at this young age.

well today is hatch day . went down to the coop and checked just now. 1 has pipped out of the 6. i will know more tonight when i get home from work. keep tuned in for updates. have a great monday everyone.
 
Blue seal, congratulations!

We had tragedy in our coop this week. A predator got 2 hens and our one and only chick. I am absolutely heartbroken, as is my broody mom. This is all a first time experience for us, and hearing Momma cluck for her chick is KILLING me. I hope she snaps out of it soon. DH has gone into 'rooster mode'. Bought and set live traps yesterday, and is talking about putting cameras on the coop area. Poor guy, I think he just feels helpless.
