x3. I've been there. I lost 9 at one time to a weasle a few months ago. Just the other day a hawk killed a 5 week old chick. That mama is really watching over her 2 remaining. Sorry to hear this, it is never easy. Live traps work great. I catch a lot of predetors this way

Thank you all so much. Your words really help. We've never set traps before, I hope we don't end up 'catching' our Yorkie in one.

I'm going to see if I can get to tractor supply today and get some fencing with smaller holes, whatever it was reached through and into the run.

Look around on the predator forums. People have advice as to what bait to use and how to tie down the traps so they don't "walk" off. All I recall at this moment is sardines and covering the trap with something to make it more appealing, like a cave.

I hope you catch the varmit.

well today is hatch day . went down to the coop and checked just now. 1 has pipped out of the 6. i will know more tonight when i get home from work. keep tuned in for updates. have a great monday everyone.

well what i thought was a pippe turned out to be a speck of dirt. it was dark in the coop had a flashlight . got home tonight and checked none hatched yet. maybe the eggs arent fertile or they got too cold. i will give it a few more days. the broody girl just wont give up her eggs so hoping she knows there fertile and just needs another day to hatch.

My DH is in the process of building me a new and improved chicken run using 1/2" hardware clothe for the sides, my girls moved down the road to a friends house and I've just set 17 mixed eggs to hatch, told dh he has 3 months to finish that run

Sorry to hear that blueseal, was really routing for you.

Does anyone have experience adding chicks to a mourning broody? I've had people offer me chicks for her, do you think she'll accept them?
