i never candle i just wait until day 21 and see what hatches. i will wait it out till this weekend and see if they hatch. today is day 22. the broody hen is a smallish easter egger so maybe she isnt getting the eggs warm enough. the eggs arent cold . i have 2 roosters in the flock so i figured atleast a few would be fertile. my oldest roo has produced chicks before. my youngest roo is only 9 months old i asume he is old enough to produce. wait and see i guess.

Question for the broody people! How long can an egg stay alive when it's mommy is not on it?
I ask because yesterday I found this silly cochin pacing the chicken wire because the nest cover was down, it's supposed to make them feel more safe but I'm guessing she couldn't find the egg even though the other cochin had no problems finding her eggs, as I said she's SILLY, anyways I put the cover up and she merrily went back in on her egg. It's only 1 egg because the others got smushed.. By other hens.. Let's just say Silly picked a busy nestbox to brood in LOL. It happens I know.

Just wondering. I wanna know when to go into panic mode!

stony gives them to day 25 because he's had them hatch that late so don't get into a hurry to toss the eggs. Hoping for a great hatch!!

All of us have had that happen where mama got off and got on the wrong nest of eggs etc. I'd just let her go and see, it's really hard to say but It probably has a good chance.
