Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

for those of you who follow my broody craziness, the shop mama is still sitting. I need to candle her eggs soon. "Mama" is hiding eggs in the tin shed AGAIN! Her and Sammy were fooling around in there today

. Yes, litterally..... so if she sits, again, at least I know her eggs are fertile

. Is it spring yet??? It's going to feel like it here tomorrow. It's going to be 50! It was 3 below zero this morning.

my shop broody is just a little too comfortable with me. This morning, I leave the front door open for her so she can eat, as I'm feeding the other chickens. I hear a noise, and she flys 20 or 30 feet towards me, and lands on my head. Crazy girl

I have a couple of those head warmers too. Kinda freaks you out when they land on you but it's really rather cute!!!!!

I don't know if this has been asked yet or not, but 633 pages is a lot to look through

So I will ask anyway! :) I am hatching eggs with a broody hen for the first time, and reading in a few books that the hen goes out into the grass when she is off her eggs and get some dew on her breast to keep the humidity right in her eggs. I have my broody inside with no way to get to grass or dew. She does however have a water bowl which she could walk in if she so chooses. What should I do to keep humidity up?

If you'll pick up your broody you'll notice she has plucked out some of her feather so she is direct contact with her skin to eggs this is her way of keeping humidity where she wants it. Keep us updated and good luck..

Wow Stony, I'm glad you posted a pic, because I was trying to age you a good 10 years.
No news here on the broody front. Winter showed up in ernest, so I imagine it will be awhile...
