Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Why not duck eggs they are great for using in baking, and alot of folks eat them, I don't cook them because my dh won't eat them but i use them in cornbread and breads and cakes brownies etc. the reason i am asking is because 2 girls would be better than 2 boys. I'll get you those links.

If I had more duck eggs I could sell every one. We eat them just like chicken eggs as do my customers. And for baking, yup, nothin beats them!

I couldn't even give duck eggs away last year except to the place that gives out free food to those in need. I think people feel they are eating a duckling, WELL what about a chicken egg?

our son fries them all the time. As do my wife and I. Plus we sell a dozen to 2 dozen a week. They also use them as breakfast.

There is nothing wrong with two drakes, as long as they grow up togher and don't have a girl to fight over. Think of it this way everyone wants female birds--exact opposite of babies in China.

So it's March in NH which means we just got 8 inches of snow yesterday. One of my hens has been broody and I decided to let her hatch some eggs. Just this morning I heard the first peeping from one of them. This is the first time I've let a broody hen set, so it is very exciting.

Congrats looking forward to seeing those chicks, my broody is due to hatch on the 17th, first time mama.

Here is my broody going on her 7th day sitting! I am down to 6 developing eggs. I had to toss two yesterday, as they were not developing at all. She's doing such a great job! A real trooper! I know everyone mentioned how bad broody poops smell, but I really shrugged it off.. Oh wow. It's so bad..
