This is by no means proper...it was a case of some of the eggs that had been pushed out were SO close to hatching, I thought it worth trying to help them along. I have a meat thermometer in there but no way to check humidity, so I just crack it a bit as needed. I've been able to keep it between 99-102 for 3 days now. I don't know if it'll work but was all I had on hand.

Yep..... I ordered 20 Welsumers at the feed store when I found out you could order specifically X amount of pullets and X amount of cockerels. I ordered five cockerels and fifteen pullets. One little girl arrived splayed the feed store taped her little feet but it was too bad and she didn't make it. So Now I have nineteen. The good part about ordering there was I didnt have to pay for shipping or pay for the one that didn't make it. My plan was to evaluate them and sell off a few of them after they got their feathers.... Then a gal gave me two Silkey Roos. I figured they needed a home and I have 18 acres....

There is a new ordinance here no more than so many roos per acre. Lots of legitimate breeders are livid. Ordinance was passed because of the Cock Fighting industry across the border. Wont get into that....

Anyway soon as the Roos came home I was flooded by opportunity's. Along with the limited roo ordinance here in San Diego County they changed the ordinance to allow up to five chickens in the City as well as allowing Bee keeping in the city. So Now Craigslist is flooded with all sorts of chicken stuff. I miscalculated on the Welsumers. Oh well I was hoping to sell a couple of trios. they have a home here unless the roos are too aggressive. Then they get to free range with the guineas.

Then a gal I know had an Aruacana Roo and Pullet whos not quite laying yet. it was a deal I couldn't pass up. I have been wanting Arucanas for ever. While I was there she convinced me to to take her Barred Rock Roo too. Hes just got his crow. Matter of fact he was raised with the little hen. So I had to put the Sumatras on the back burner for now. Especially since my financial situation just changed.... Any one need a mechanical Designer?

Well it looks kinda like an incubator. I hope they hatch.

I finally got a picture of my little one with mama. Its 17 days old. In the smaller fenced off area, mom seems to be taking good care of him and not walking off without like she did on Friday.

Oh I love Roosters all their little drama situations. And since I have a total of Nine now.... Hee hee.

here is Hot Stuff. His girl is all blue with a very pretty charcoal head. Unfortunately I dont have a picture of her.

Hey everyone, I've got a broody cochin sitting 12 bantam eggs, that are due to hatch on the 19th! It an unplanned birthday hatch, as my birthday is 20th, I'm so happy! This is my second time trying to hatch eggs under a broody. The 1st time all the eggs were duds :(. But now with 6 days to go I've got some questions.… I have her in a small pen inside my coop but new chicks could easily go thru the wire, can I move her into a breeder pen inside the coop after they hatch?
How long should I keep her and the chicks seperate from the flock?
And if she leaves the nest with the 1st chick out, can I confine her and the chick to the nest box(large tote) so she'll stay on the eggs?
Thanks!
