Thanks. The first one hatched a day before we thought. We moved her to a nice big box of her own after we found the first one. She has 3 more eggs so we'll see what happens today. I don't know if they are viable or not.

Hi all, first time on this thread. A couple weeks ago, my young mini cochin went broody. She sat diligently for a week, reluctant to get up to eat or poo. i ended up putting food and water near the nest, and taking her out once a day to eliminate. The second week in, she developed severe constipation, and though i tried, she died from it.
My questions for you guys is, is this a normal concern? Should i feed a broody differently? and Do you have any treatments for this? The treatments i was able to find were far and few in between, and once i i.d.'d the problem i only ended up having 3 days to try and fix it.
I loved that girl, and don't want to ever go through that again. Had i known, i would never have let her sit on those eggs.
I'm so sorry!!! Such a shame!!!![]()

You are sure she was broody, aren't you? It wasn't something like a softie or an internally broken egg and she was feeling under the weather?
Really wish I had some wisdom for you!![]()
Okay so I ended up giving Duchess all the new chicks I had (7 of them, six banties and 1 standard sized chick) after I found a chick trampled by my ducklings (I think). She's doing great with them, but today when I moved her to count I could only find six of themI even checked under her wings.
I originally had her sitting on six eggs, do they know how many eggs they were sitting on? Could it be possible that she killed it and ate it? I didn't find the chick anywhere.
