This is our first time hatching, we ordered our first batch of babies last June so this is all new and sooo exciting!!
I have a Colombian Wy. that decided around St. Patrick's Day that she wanted to be a mama. We had her setting on plastic Easter eggs for about 2 weeks before we put some real ones under her. I ordered some from a very nice lady in Michigan and 10 of the 12 she sent made it intact. I put one of our own eggs under her as a "control" so she had 11 total. Yesterday was hatch day here and 4 were hatched before I went to bed last night. 3 more looked like they were pretty close. I woke up this AM to 8 sweet little fuzz butts!! The 1 of our own and 7 of the mailed ones.
So far we have added 3 Buff Orps., 2 RIR, 2 Blue/Wheaten Americaunas and our 1 RIR(roo) x Barred Rock(hen), which happens to be a roo...don't know how I feel about that yet! We'll see how many others we have turn out to be roos!!
We have 1 RIR egg, 1 BO egg and 1 "EE" egg(that I'm pretty sure died early in the process according to my candling) left to hatch. I heard peeping in the RIR so we'll see!!
I have to say, I'm so glad we decided to go ahead and have her hatch some!! This has been such a fun experience for our boys(8, 6, and 2)...and for me too!!

Sounds like a plan! Hope it goes well.Well, poo! We moved Gloria to the broody pen late last night. The move seemed to go smoothly, she didn't seem excited about it and she stayed on the nest that we could tell last night. But she's been off the nest all morning. The broody pen was the quarantine pen for her and the two other new chickens I got last fall, so I was hoping it would seem comfortable and familiar to her. Guess not.I'm planning on leaving her in there until tomorrow, maybe she'll get used to the idea and go back to setting. In the meantime, I'm not so sure I want to put either of the two chicks that have hatched so far under her anyway. One is small and seems a little....off. It's face seems to be asymmetrical or something. The other one seems to have spraddle leg and keeps flipping over onto it's back. I really don't know what I'm going to do if she goes back to being broody after I move her back into the coop. I'm sure Gloria would be a good momma and protect her chicks from the other hens, but I don't feel like it would be fair to ask her to do it when they are all locked up in the coop/run and don't have much room to get away. And it'll be another few weeks before the new grass in the yard has established enough to let the chickens back out. If she does decide to go broody again after we move her back into the coop maybe I'll get some hatching eggs and let her set for 3 weeks then let the chickens back into the yard when the eggs hatch.
