Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Broody number 2 for me may be on the way!!!

The splash Ameraucana hen I was suspecting is REALLY sticking now. I've pulled her egg today, just in case, and left her on the nest with another egg to see how long she sticks. If she lasts overnight tonight, we're good to go!!!!!! I'll build her a clutch. In the meantime, I'm putting her egg in the cool storage ....

This hen gave me a fabulous splash olive egger boy for Christmas. I did an incubator hatch on Christmas Day for the family. I would LOVE to get such an olive egger splash female out of this hen. Same Blue Copper Marans cock bird running with her now as then ....

Will add more olive egger eggs if this girl (Rembrandt) holds ....

Broody Naima is holding tight on 9 eggs. I'm feeding her hard-boiled eggs everyday which she absolutely enjoys. She actually let me see the eggs today as she adjusted them. They look good on day 3.

And my Red Sex Link is still making motions ....

I feel like Stoney must feel!

My broody cup runneth over.

I let my broody out her shed before and she had a big poo had a little drink and some food and went and stood in the feild i hope she goes back to her nest!, i just baught her some eggs!

Today is day 20 - and when I checked on Onyx this morning, there were four babies!




So 4 out of 11 eggs have hatched. I put some eggs under her the day after the others. So tomorrow will be day 20 for about half of them. This is so much more fun than using an incubator! And there is nothing I have to do to take care of the chicks. Mama Onyx seems very capable.

I just had my two broodies hatch out six silkies. They are doing a great job of integrating them into the larger flock. I love those silkies!
