Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

See! They are funny. I heard onr roo scratching around and comes crawling out from under a pile of lumber on the poarch...clucking away like saying...yeah it's a good place to lay an egg!...I mean he barely fit under there...I had to make sure no egg..too easy to squash. I guess they don't want anyone saying, all they do is stand around and look pretty....

That is so cute, today Scarletts chicks are 3.5 weeks old. and she left them to go lay an egg, I was so upset with her because they were peeping their heads off, but after she laid she was right back with them, they are cochin bantams way to little to be on their own. Still haven't got pics of our new ones, maybe tomorrow, they maybe full grown if i don't get busy. . Look at that stink eye stony, [if looks could kill]

lol. She is the mellowest broody I have ever had, at least towards me. I can actually pick her up without gloves on.

. She goes after the other girls if they peck at her lil ones however. I'm used to Sumatra broody's. Reach towards them, and pull back a bloody stump

. She really didn't like the flash one bit! Great stink eye

I'm sorry to hear about the 2 chicks, Turkeys are maybe too big to sucessfully hatch and raise chickens I don't know because i've never tried it. I hope the mama hen will accept the chick too.

The hen rejected the hatching eggs and I found one successful hatchling outside the nest (thank goodness it wasn't cold since it is 104 here) and the other shrink-wrapped inside the egg. I gave the hatchling to the turkey and intervened with the shrink-wrapped chick. We will see if they are alive in the morning. Funny how my turkeys NEVER sit on turkey eggs, only chicken eggs.

Oh, and I was raised in Western NC, Macon County.
