Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

my brooder hens came is a very light pink is there something wrong with her?

I'm supposing you are saying "comb" is very light pink, and if that's the case it's okay. They do get paler when they go broody. You can make sure she's eating and feed her some scrambled eggs and tuna to help keep up her strength. Also be sure to give her some vitamins and electrolyte supplements to keep her healthy. Especially if your weather is in the extreme right now.

It seems the professional mom is on a holiday. I caught her running around outside and off her clutch. She was hanging with he gang. So we shall see what happens. Plus she laid an egg today, so she's prebroody. I won't make any moves until she stays on the nest and stops laying like Topsy.

Glad I didn't rush out to get more eggs.

yes that is what I was saying and thank you I think I will move her into a bigger home later today right now she is in a milk crate with a lid on it and i go out there 3 times a day to let her out to eat a drink.

I thinkk my partride cochin is goin broody first time this yr
In the past she's been an excellent mom
Hatch 1-12 chicks
Hatch 2-wood ducks
Hatch 3-3 chicks
So well see this time she's got 5 or 6 eggs under her
Oh and my modern game bantam is laying another clutch this yr
She tryed going broody about 3 weeks ago but her nest wasn't in a good spot this time
It is so time will tell
:)

My broody splash Giant hen hatched a chick! Just one, she only had one egg left. It was due on Saturday, she hatched it Sunday late or early today. It's momma is a red naked neck, and father is a splash Giant. Baby is cutsey-cute!

Momma very upset w/me so I didn't fuss with her much - cute little chickie feetsies!

I snatched the baby out REAL quick & took a super fast photo - what an interesting color! But...not naked necked.

Going back under momma....

And almost gone....

I'm so happy for this broody...I could really tell she was REALLY wanting a chick...wish more had hatched, but I'm thrilled for one! I think she'll be a good momma.

My broody #2, Marans hen, is tight on the nest and today is day 8.

I'm very excited - my broody sexlink, Penguin, hopped off her nest yesterday for a bite to eat and a little dust bathing so I took the opportunity to candle. We have 5 out of 6 eggs with lovely little baby Silkies inside! I'm expecting the little ones to hatch this coming Saturday or Sunday... I'm really hoping somebody pops out on Saturday as my boyfriend's kids will be visiting and they love to see the babies :) Fingers crossed for at least a couple white babies! The others will be a bit of a surprise as I've got a blue boy in the pen too... Interested to see what we get!

And for good measure... Angry broody stare!!!
