In about a week or so I should have more chicks! A first time broody has been brooding away. She is a this year's bird, hatched in April. She layed her pretty olive eggs for a few weeks, and now won't get off the nest. So the eggs I have in the incubator will go to her once they hatch. She is a good girl, had a rough start in life. A turkey tom attacked her as a few days old chick (her mama defended her as best she could, and he went to the freezer), but he broke off part of her lower mandible, causing permanent damage. She could eat, drink, and grew as well as the others. She does need her upper beak trimmed from time to time, though.

BTW I LIKE having control of the incubation. Having them in my incubator means I don't have to deal with other hens tromping in her nest, her deciding to quit, etc. I know broodies have done it with no problem for ages, but I enjoy doing it this way.

im so mad my duck just got killed last night from a coyote and my male duck doesn't even know what to do hes just sitting there hiding and not moving around just sitting and making little noise .... first my chick gets killed by a bird now my duck i hate wild animals
