I don't remember seeing - what happened/is happening with the ducks?
A Copperhead got in with the hen and got both ducklings. The other egg didnt hatch. I felt sooo bad for my duck....

I let her hatch 2 in April, she is a wonderful mama ! I plan to keep only 2 hens from this set, I have a gal who wants the rest. This hen goes broody so much it's not funny, laying only a very select few eggs and back to brooding again lol. Guess her goal in life is being a mama, guess that's what I will let her do lol.i will post pics as it happens :)

My AliceAnn was just like that. She went broody the first time after only laying for a few months and then again every 3 months until I let her hatch her peeps.
I lost her last Fall, defending her babies against a predator. I wasn't sure I'd ever have another. But lo and behold, one of her sisters went broody for me this past month!
It is a mixed blessing, for those who would prefer eggs to chooks, but for me it is a delight!!!
Congrats, again!

I have a back yard coop and only ever wanted 5 girls, math happened and I have ten lol, but a gal wanted my two astrolorps so I decided I wanted to have 2 more to replace the two I gave away. They were a year old but they were mean! They were constantly beating up my other girls .i finally gave them away but missed there eggs, those birds laid every day with out fail ! I have no rooster so went and purchased local eggs from another farmer, she gave me the last eggs to. I really only want eggs, but I have two broodys constantly. I hope the two I keep lay regularly when there old enough !

Somebody musta been pretty nasty to those Australorps before you got them. They are the nicest girls! Maybe they just never had any interaction with people.
They are amazing egg layers! Wouldn't trade my girls for anything!
I did add some California Whites to my flock this past week, tho, I can't wait to have some white eggs as well as big, pretty brown ones!!!
Hope you get loads of eggs from your girls!

I got these as day olds, I had fed hand raised my girls. I can hold them and there the sweetest ! but not in a group. they are so dominant that they want no other chicken around. there fine with the old five girls, but my new girls they will not get along with, no way no how. these two are brutal on my 24 week olds. pulling mass amounts of feathers out. I can not deal with girls who will not play nice, there off to a woman who is thrilled!!

right my orpington is just being silly now, the chicks will be nine weeks old in 3 days and she has still got them in the nest box, she still wont part from them, she needs to realise they will soon be bigger then her!
