Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

They are beautiful and healthy looking. Nothing wrong with them staying as a family. I think it's sweet.
thankyou :), if the BO chicks is a girl (thats the only way it will be kept) then i think the mother and that one will remain friends and go around together :)
 
13 weeks still with mama, she is still doing the broody cluck and the orp chick is trying to copy her!
That is so sweet! and I'll bet it gives you the giggles too! Oh wait... you're a guy, right? Sorry!

also the mother was holding a seed in her mouth and clucking today and the chick pecked it out, she still likes treating them like babys, hope she goes broody again next year, thats if she survives the stoats that pass, im dreading it because the last hen killed by a stoat last year got it inoctober!!

Johnn do you lock your birds up at night? about the only way we can keep preds form devastating our flocks here in the US.
 
Smokey isn't going broody yet. But interestingly Topsy was sitting atop a ping pong ball this evening in the nest box along with her two 9 week olds. So don't know what that is all about.

It's starting to get colder here at night, 50F, and I really don't need any more chicks. Hoping my broodies will take a break for the winter.
