Old fashioned Broody thread for ducks 2013 edition

My 2 won't give up for nothing and now neither one is even laying.

beautiful birds miss lydia .. so i should remove some eggs and put newer eggs in for better chances of getting ducklings ?? i only have one female duck and she isn't laying no more so i can't put new ones in i will see what happens im not candling them or anything either im just letting nature do its job and if i need to remove some ducklings if there are to many i can take care of them

The only problem I see fb is her not being able to cover all the eggs which means some may not hatch and there's always the chance some may get broken with that many in her nest, and getting broken may depend on what she is in. if it's a small space then more of a chance some may get cracked and broken as she moves them around or steps on them, But since your letting nature take it's course then all these things would just be taken for granted. Hopefully if you leave them all most or all will hatch. and if she was gathering for 15 days before she started sitting and you didn't mark them to know which are the oldest[those would have been my choice to take out] then just leave them all and see what happens. and thank you for the compliment.

i had eggs that were in the fridge for a while before and they still hatched so i guess i have good fertility ... she is in a box stall for horses filled with hay every wheres all to her self so she has a lot of room to do her thing so there hay and shavings mixed in her nest so they shouldn't break i hope ..

That sounds good with room to move around and spread her eggs out all should go good. keep us updated and looking forward to seeing the lil ducklings.

,I would love to see that. well on second thought maybe I wouldn't. by the time your girl has all the eggs she wants to sit on and then hatches there will be enough scovy's to fill up the whole house.
