For the silkie Roos, at what age would you process them do you think
I have no idea, never had silkies..and can't remember the details from the guy who regularly sold them.
For all the cockerels I slaughter to eat, about 14 weeks is prime IMO,
still tender enough for the grill and before they start causing trouble with the girls.

I've not raised silkies myself, but I've read posts on this forum of people who processed and ate their silkie cockerels and thought they were quite good. For other breeds of roosters, I cull when they start making a nuisance of themselves to the hens. That can happen as early as 11 weeks, but more typically is 14-16 weeks old.

Oh, now that’s a good thought. I hate to be wasteful, and I’d rather see things being put to use. For the silkie Roos, at what age would you process them do you think

I seriously considered processing my silkies should any cockerels come out of my straight run (there was none thank goodness), but my family was really squicked out by the idea of eating them because they are so much like pets and not like traditional chickens.

I know I said I would never have Roos, but here I am with 1 silkie and two Dutch bantams, looking at keeping a drizzle should I happen to get one. But there will be a limit! I have to think about my girls.
