I am building a coop (my first!) using mainly recycled materials. We want to use old dog-eared fencing for the outside of the coop but we are worried about the space between the slats. Should the slats be touching each other and therefore be less drafty or is the space ok? We're not sure the wood can be easily taken apart without breaking.

Thanks!

you could always try board and batten siding. Furring strips go horizontally across the coop and then the wider boards are nailed vertically. Gaps between the larger boards are covered with smaller boards (called battens) also hung vertically, that way all the gaps between the larger boards are covered. A time honored method of construction.
