Old Food?

To the OP how many birds are we talking about and how much feed? How long do you believe this left over bag will last?

Unless they are on this possibly deficient older feed for an extended period of time (weeks) it's not going to cause any realistic nutritional deficiencies, especially if they have any ranging time where they can forage or if you provide them left overs...



Depending on extreme of deficiency, time required for clinical signs can vary. Also most of the water soluble vitamins can cause quickly because birds have very limited storage capacity for those vitamins and the half lives of the vitamins in the active tissues can also be short. Fat soluble vitamins may not show problems for weeks.

We have 8 hens and about 40 pounds of the old feed left. We provides left overs every few days and also let them. Out to free range for about a hour every few days. I will buy a bag of starter grower and mix it in with the old layer feed. The old bag is a few months old since we stop using it but it has been in a silo for how knows long before that. I'm thinking it will last a few weeks. Thanks everyone!
