Someone nearby is going to be selling this breed this year and I'm quite interested in them. I'm going to be waiting though to add them.
I'd love to hear from people who own this breed.

Oegb were for a long period of time one of the most popular show bantams. Game only in name they are quite inquisitive and relatively smart, however this is heavily influenced on hatchery vs show breeder vs backyard breeder. The hens can make good mothers but lay a decent amount.

In the show world oegb are bred typical hen line and cock line as the more visually eye catching colours of the breed often have different needs depending on the gender for SOP. Most common colours are Black, White and Black Breasted Red. However Creole and Spangled have strong following in the show world.

What exactly do you want to know? I absolutely adore my little teeny tinies! :love Such sweet birds and so full of personality! They have no idea they're a fraction of the size of everyone else and hold their own in a mixed flock quite well--though I would recommend against keeping them in a mixed-size flock with larger roosters. They're feisty little pocket chickens that could very easily be harmed by a large rooster.

So cute!
What do you love about them? Hate about them? That sort of stuff. That's the point of my post, is to hear from other owners of this breed. I love hearing feedback from other owners.

I own atm two pet quality red pyle roosters and they are pretty smart. Hold their ground in a mix flock, the one in my photo does jump on me for food and treats but gotta be on his own term with handling like a cat.

Their cuteness is what made me interested in them, so tiny and precious and pretty. But getting to know their personalities and temperaments is what really hooked me with them. They are so sharp and thoughtful about things. They're very sweet, always wanting to cuddle in my lap or sit on my shoulder as I'm walking around. They're curious and quite bold for such tiny birds. They don't take anything from even much larger birds! The boys are feisty, but personable and gentle if given the chance to be. I agree with the previous poster in that my boys are very much only willing to be handled on their terms. All around, they're just great little birds. 🥰

The downsides to me are, first, that their size seems to make them a bit more susceptible to the cold, at least in my experience. My hens, especially, just do not seem to do well at all when we get below around 10°F. And the big one for me is that they're so tiny that hawks can grab them and take off before you even have a second to react. :hmm I've personally had to shelve my breeding plans for my OEGBs because of hawks devastating my birds, at least until I can afford to put together a structure where they will have plenty of room but be safe from aerial predation.

Hope that helps! 🙂
