Does anyone know can I introduce a new pair of geese with my 1 yr old goose (don't know if male or female). I had a pair and lost one when they were young. I would like to get another pair but don't want to traumatize the one I already have. The one I have hangs with the ducks.

Hi Kym. It won´t get traumatised, I´m quite sure of that. From the pic it´s hard to tell if it´s male or female, although my hunch is male. It has a lobe, but some males have that, too, and it has an arched neck, but some females walk like that, too. How old is it? Is it quite easy-going? If it´s not behaving like a gander, it probably isn´t one. (on guard, protective, trying to mate the ducks, etc). do you plan to get goslings, or adults? It´d be good to post some more pics on the "serv´s up, what´s this?" thread for comments and guesses on its sex, then if everyone reckons it´s a boy, it´d be better to get 2 females. If everyone reckons it´s a female, you could get a pair. Well done on getting it a friend or two, though. That´s great.

Here are more pics, We have had her (don't know but always called her Delilah) for almost a yr, got her and mate as a baby. She protects the ducks (they follow her everywhere)
Looks a bit gander-like to me, especially in that first pic, but soon there´ll be someone on here that knows Embdens, and will be able to tell you for sure. Protecting the ducks, too, is a gander thing.

There you go, an answer from serv who has loads of them. So, i´d suggest trying to get an adult female or a couple of female gozzies for him. You can tell embdens´sex at hatch, normally, so it shouldn´t be too difficult. the males have a lighter grey fluff to them than the females.
