I have 5 laying hens (not right now due to long nights and/or molting) and 3 old Hylines who haven't laid an egg for ages. The old girls are simply finished with their egg supply, but I promised them they could live their natural lives out here.
Nearly every morning one of my old girls goes into the henhouse, sits on a nesting box for a while, then hops out looking very proud of herself.
Wow, those hybrids certainly are programmed, aren't they? None of these gals has ever molted or gone broody and I've had them for 4 years.

Aww! They still try! How sweet and well bred. I love my blackstars...for a cross they are the most fun and best producers too.

Well at least yours are trying! Mine haven't even disturbed the nest box for months!
