I have an ancient hen, Ms. Mary. She’s been the flock matriarch for the past 8 years. As she aged, her egg production went from daily to none. That’s totally normal. About a month ago, I started getting one white egg every day or so. Since none of my producing flock lay white eggs, I was puzzled. Last week, I observed Ms Mary in a laying box, moaning and then plunk, there was a white egg. Mystery solved. However yesterday she went broody. I banished her to the dog’s large, well shaded back yard. (I put all my broody hens out in the yard. A week later, the Broods are gone.). What is going on with Ms Mary?
