Old hens

What does anyone do with REALLY old chickens? Mine are 8 years old and either lay very infrequently or no longer laying. They are already molting. I kept them all last winter but I'm looking at 6+ months of cold/snow/feed, etc and possibly no eggs next Spring when they are 9. Any ideas?

It's a personalchoice faced by each keeper. Some have the resources/ desire to allow them to live out their natural life, some process the birds, some sell or give away the birds. For me it depends on the bird....special ones may earn the right to free loader status, but generally I don't keep birds past the second laying cycle

I, personally, just keep my girls. But, they are my pets.
