Old House Demolition

Well, she asked me if it was a Mommy salamander and I told her it was a Mommy or a Daddy. She asked me if it had babies and I said it might, and she decided it needed to go home to take care of its babies.

The couple that buys these old places sells the wood for use in custom furnitutre, building, etc. The man does "weekend warrior" work as a carpenter, and says he always makes a little shelf of some sort out of every house to give to the sellers.

I guess a lot of time, there's a lot of attachment, family homes and such.

We could never have afforded to fix it up. Seriously. There was no inside plumbing or electricity. We don't have the capital for that type of renovation.

My first house had chestnut trim and baseboards. Its beautiful wood, and American Chestnut doesn't exist anymore as a commercial product. Cool that someone could reclaim it. I have a really neat photography book called "Abandonings" which is pictures of old barns in the upper midwest.

WELL, YOU COULD HAVE MADE IT THE COUNTRY'S LARGEST COOP.

I LOVE OLD HOUSES AND IF THAT HAD BEEN ON MY PROPERTY I WOULD HAVE FOUND A WAY TO FIX IT UP. PIECE RATE.

COOL THAT YOU WILL GET A PART OF IT IN RETURN. DID YOU GET PICS BEFORE YOU SOLD IT?

Here's a couple more pictures of the old house. Sorry about their enormous size. The back part of the house began to collapse last summer, and this winter did it in.

If it was closer to our house, we may have used it for something, but it's at the front of our property, about 1200 feet from the house.

The back part went down when a branch fell on the porch on the other side, then it was like a domino effect.

I know my doublewide sure won't be here in a hundred twenty-four years.

There was no way of keeping it forever. It was a hazard, falling down, and *our* liability. Also, it is a harbor for all sorts of wild animals. A raccon was nesting in one of the chimneys. I guess it scared the one worker near half to death.

Also, 2 words for you: Lead Paint.

It is a big, beautiful old house. The wood will be recycled and reused. It's not going to waste, just going on in other, safer ways.

What a beautifull place that must have been in its day. I just love going through old abandoned homes and barns. ( with permission of course) We had a small one room house on the front of our property when we bought this place. It was a cute little place in its day...but the one corner was completely rotted, and was falling in. We decided because we could not see the little place from our home due to trees, its was safer to bring it down so the local kids could not get in there and get hurt. Its a shame really..and we are going to put a small cabin in there one day. Just a one room cabin, with a loft..for a guest house.
