Hey all! I had mentioned in an earlier thread that I use an old FI model 4200 incubator that I bought at a yard sale for $10.00. This incubator has always been very inconsistent with temp and humidity. This required me to keep constant watch on it and make several adjustments per day. When the humidity got around 60-70% the viewing windows would fog up and the temp would drop. Any small adjustment with the temp control knob resulted in wild swings of temp. This made lockdown extremely difficult! Finally I got frustrated enough ( and smart enough) to check it out more carefully. The fan and circuit board were dusty and grungy so I dissembled them and cleaned them thoroughly. I also noticed that the holes in the thin plastic shell covering the incubator did not line up with the ventilation holes in the styrofoam. I took a #8 nail and reamed out the holes in both the top and bottom of the incubator.
After reassembling everything I took a couple days and adjusted the parameters and set 36 eggs. They are now 14 days in and the incubator has remained very consistent. No more fogging of the viewing windows and rarely any adjustment needed. I am pleased!

This is my old FI incubator. I've had some good hatches with it but is inconsistent to the point of being "evil". So I named it Darth. As in "Darth Bator".
