Mathilda the goose is likely over 12 years old, but may be much older than that. I've had her for 7 years and for the last several weeks she has developed a problem which at first I thought was lameness. But it seems to have progressed to something more debilitating. She has a good deal of trouble raising her body once she sits down. Her feet don't seem to be working properly. Every morning and several times during the day, I have to help her get up on her feet. Once she's up, she can walk around, but seems to walk with a limp and it looks very painful as she attempts to keep up with the other geese. Once she is in the water, she can swim as well as ever. Her feet are very hot to the touch. Her appetite is fine.I s this a sign of age, perhaps? She is a dear goose and I would really like to help her.
There are NO vets around here that specialize in birds.so that is not an option.

I know nothing about geese (sorry!) but could it be some for of rheumatism or arthritis?
You may want to try posting this in the Emergencies/Injuries/Diseases section.
There is a possibility the only injury is old age, but you might get more help there.

Of course, weakness or any behavior changes can be signs of a medical problem, but from what you describe, it sounds like common aging problems (just like humans, dogs, etc are prone to getting), especially during molting season. I have a few aging geese with hips that are starting to go that have difficulty standing or walking fast or far. For those geese, I like to leave sprinkler hose and other water attractions nearby area they spend most time, so they do not have to trek around as much, and will help cool their feet. You can also give her fish oil supplements or if you have a regular small animal vet, try to ask for a prescription for metacam (which can be filled online at chewy.com).

I suspected it could be her age, but I really don't KNOW her age....
