Old Members Missing - Lots of New Members - Please USE SEARCH FEATURE

This is a great topic. How can we help others?
I think the point about using search is great, on the other hand, using links to posts that cover the subject is a great idea as well. Emergencies and BST are unique for the most part and when your hen is sick, the last thing to worry about is "Gee did someone else have this same thing happen?" As far as other things like egglaying, incubation and standard stuff, while it is understandably new and exciting to those starting out, the info is there. When I joined BYC several years ago, I spent a huge amount of time reading before I even joined. The wealth of information here is staggering.

Let's not turn this into an arguement, k? Tone and words are sometimes difficult to "get" in written words.

To the new people who are joining..Welcome! Don't be afraid to ask your questions. Do some reading and look around.

To the experienced seasoned "pros", thank you for all you do and all you know and all you help out.

We are on the same page here Tuff. We want to help newbies and don't want
to scare them. That is not the point of this post. If 10 newbies post the same
question all in one night will they all get answers??? THIS THREAD IS MEANT TO
HELP EVERYONE, NOT BASH!!!

Is that how you read my post???? Maybe you should read it again... That is not
what I am saying at all. This is a discussion and that is how I opened it.

"BUT now that we are seasoned veterans we don't want to be bothered with stupid, simple, repeat questions - "Hey newbie - don't waste our time - look it up, do a search, read a book.....but by the way welcome to BYC"
I am insulted that you actually think that is what I meant. You are very wrong.

See PC - this is what is happenng so much on the forum lately. People are getting "insulted" so easily and telling others "You are very wrong" so quickly. I certainly didn't mean to insult you and wasn't specifically referring to your post. I was summing up the general attitude of the answers up until my post. Generally speaking everyone was saying "refer them to search" and how tired everyone was of the repeat and simple questions.

Why is everyone lately looking to get offended so easily? This a chicken site where people come to discuss chickens and seek and offer advice - not a hostile debate forum for bashing others and taking offense and getting insulted so easily.

My deepest apologies for insulting you.

Ruth, you and I have had wonderful responses to each other in other posts.
I hope you will see what my real intentions are here.

Excellent, Tiffany. I think that is where a lot of frustration can come from. "Tell me everything about ducks!" I want to say, "got a few years?"
Now "How old are ducks when they start laying"? is way easier to answer and is something that would be specific.
"Help, my duck is sick!" is not helpful. "My duck seems lethargic and is acting in this way" will help us find an answer quicker.

We all want to help, but we need help in order to help.

A comment: I only recently discovered that when I do a search, that I can click the last box to read "POSTS" rather than "TOPICS". The default was set to TOPICS, and therefore it was often impossible to locate the info I was seeking without reading tons and tons of entire topics to find the one tiny bit of info I neede. Maybe the default can be changed to POSTS? Makes searching MUCH easier.

Also, what's a sticky?

I have no problem with your post PC....

I have time to answer Newbie questions so I do..over and over at times....I say use search alot too........
