Old or young

This might be a stupid question, but I'm willing to ask anyway. I have to roosters. One is a known good breeder. The other is his 6 month old son. I am killing off my older flock. Of these two whom should I kill?

What are your breeding goals? You need to evaluate both of them in light of what you hope to accomplish in your breeding pens.

Breed only to replace my stock every 6 months or so. I plan on hatching 12 our so every 6 months to feed my family.

If the dad is of good nature, calm disposition and good heavy-set frame - then keep him.
If the son is nicer or larger, than keep him.
Personally, I typically keep the son - as I'm breeding for heft and layers, so typically the son is bigger than the father. However, if the son is of a nasty temperment, he's the one in the soup pot.
