i got a 9 year old rooster from my old ag teacher, the person who got me started with chickens last year, he ordered him from murray mcmurray, I have been raising some chicks for him and I took them to his house today, he said I could have his two black sex link hens and his old cochin rooster if I wanted them, I said yes and got them, the rooster is really old, I understand that he probably won't live much longer, he just keeps setting down and going to sleep, my old teacher said that he couldn't roost anymore, I have him in a pen with two hens that get picked on, any care tips? I will post pics of him in a minute

Provide him with a more nutritious diet containing animal protein and dark table greens. Also get a 1/2 boiled egg into him daily. To stimulate feed intake provide him with live meal worms.

Check his feces for sign of worms, If worm sign apparent, then treat him for worms.

Keep him in a thermally neutral environment. Old birds can have problems with dumping heat.

Ok, thank you so much, I will do all of that, my old teacher said he was recently attacked by a racoon, when I got home his wing kinda smelt funny, I lifted it up and deep under all his fluffiness, there was a large cut that I think is infected, I sprayed blue kote on it for now, my teacher did not know he had a cut on him, should I clean it tomorrow?

Probably best to only use the peroxide for the initial cleaning......
......it's great for disinfecting germs and sloughing off necrotic tissue, but it can also dissolve new tender healthy tissue.

Vetericyn antiseptic for animals or a human triple antibiotic ointment without pain relief ingredients(they can be toxic to birds) is good to use after the first cleansing.

Best of Luck with him.
