Old rooster care

I think I cleaned it pretty good, I will keep watching it
<thumbsup>!!

Watch for inflammation, pus, ect.

Is he eating, drinking, pooping and moving around ok?
If he's not, he may have a systemic infection because the wound went unnoticed for who know how long (plus raccoons can carry some nasties) and some oral or injectable antibiotics may be in order if you want to go that far.
I don't know enough about avian antibiotics, so If you feel you need them you might want to start a new thread in the emergencies forum.

Good cLuck! Keep us posted.

I understand how you feel. I've had an injured rooster and a hen, and when infections take hold, they move very quickly and there's not much you can do to stop it. Just know that you tried, but Kenny had the infection long before you got him. The fact his wing "smelled funny", tells me he probably had a seriously deep infection that wasn't going to get better no matter what you did.

Yeah, I figured it was too late, I just got so attached to him in the week I had known him, he was such a sweet chicken

But the circle of life goes on, the night he died, one of my eggs under a broody hatched
