I had someone offer me 6 "old timey" geese.he said they are white mostly with some grey and weigh about 20 pounds each. H also said they don't have very long necks.what in the world is he describing? I know as much about geese as I do flying to the moon....

American Buffs? That could be it.

There are Heavy, Medium, and I guess Light breeds, American Buffs are Medium, necks not too long, and white-ish.

I suspect a cross of a embden gander on a toulouse goose or a decendent of such a cross. The gander brings more weight (meat) and the toulouse produces more eggs. This was a popular practice for barnyard geese in the old times, and the appearance sounds right.~gd

Well. I bought them. Any guesses now?? He said Toulo
use but one is white???

They are mixed. The white could be either an embden or a male pilgrim. The one on the right is probably a pomeranian. The one on the front left is mixed, who knows with that one. And the back-left one looks like it might be toulouse.

My guesses: Female pilgrim, front left; male pilgrim, to the right of her. Pomeranian on the right, and toulouse on the back left.

OK did some research... front 2 look like Pilgrim...white one is embden.. and the other a Grey back.....its hard to tell Pilgrim from Toulouse to me....idk?? The male Is the one on the front right.the darkest one...got 2 eggs today too!!

Embdens are all white, they are not saddleback as that one is. It could be a toulouse/embden cross because of the long neck and large body. However it could also be a pomeranian goose. I'd bet that he is male. Toulouse are browner than pilgrims, which tend to be grey. They also often have more defined stripes on their backs, generally have oranger bills, and are a little rounder and "fluffier". Also, no white on the face. I would bet money on the brown one being a toulouse. I'd also bet that she is a girl. So, two boys, two girls, one of the pairs (if they are indeed mating) the same breed (pilgrims). On a second glance I would bet that the pilgrims are relatively young.
