Old woman new chicken mom

New here, hi everyone. I’m 73 and I’m new to raising chickens. One of my silver lace has been on the nest for about 24 hours now. Should I be concerned? She is a year old.

Welcome to BYC. Trying removing your hen off the nest. If she squawks, fusses or tries to peck or fight you, she's broody and wants to be a mama.
If she acts lethargic and doesnt move much, she might be eggbound. Then it would be best to post over in the Emergency section in the forum and someone will help you.

There is no rooster, is there anything in particular I should do? I want to keep her happy

Okay. If she’s broody, she’ll stop laying and sit there for about three weeks.

There are ways to break her of it, one is persistently locking her out of the coop during the day. We have a cage on bricks we put them in. After 3-4 days, that breaks them.

She may be broody or she may be sick. You need to remove her and see what she does.

Hello and Welcome to BYC. Glad to have you here with us in this fun and poultry loving community. If your old hen wants chicks and you would like chicks you have the option of buy a half dozen eggs from one who has a rooster. If not you can break her.
