Old woman new chicken mom

New here, hi everyone. I’m 73 and I’m new to raising chickens. One of my silver lace has been on the nest for about 24 hours now. Should I be concerned? She is a year old.
Hi! Welcome to BYC! She may be broody and that means she wants to hatch baby chicks. You don't need a rooster for this and its pretty common. Does she growl at you and puff up her feathers when you come near? And has she been pulling out her stomach feathers? If she has been acting like that she probably is broody. Usually, they sit for 3-4 weeks (that's how long it takes to hatch a baby chick, 21 days) but mine have gone for 2 months before we could break them due to how cold it was and me not being home. I would take her out of the box and put her in a dog crate for 3-4 days or until she stops being broody. Some hens are more persistent than others and it can take longer.

Hello, and welcome to BYC.
Welcome to BYC. Trying removing your hen off the nest. If she squawks, fusses or tries to peck or fight you, she's broody and wants to be a mama.
If she acts lethargic and doesnt move much, she might be eggbound. Then it would be best to post over in the Emergency section in the forum and someone will help you.
Great advice!
