I still have my very first chickens, Miss Prissy, a gold duckwing game, and Miss Penny, a wheaten game . They don't lay many eggs but I could never part with them. They are the most friendly of all my birds and I am very attached to them.They are both seven years old. Pinky(WLH rooster), Stinky(RIR rooster), and Tinky(BB Bronze Turkey) are 6 this year. They will live with me as long as they can

Of course you did not wish this on them, try not to think that.
It is just one of the risks of keeping chickens.
It sounds like they had a great life with you, these things happen.
