Older hen acting lethargic normal?

@Wyorp Rock I am not sure what to do, all of the ones at the fishmox website had crazy shipping prices and would not be here in time (5-7 days, we are willing to pay for that one but overnight shipping is insane. Do you think 5-7 days is too much time?). I cannot find any that are not prescription anywhere.

She's improving yes?
If she is, then I would do the 5-7 day shipping.
Well she is still on the high roost, I made her scrambled eggs last night and this morning. She ate a few bites last night but not today. She wouldn’t even eat the ham which is surprising because I know she loves it. She is still drinking 100% normally. Her poop is very green. We managed to get 2 day shipping which is good. They are 500mg capsules, how much is a correct dosage for her?

Dose for Amoxicillin is 57mg per pound of weight given orally twice a day for 7-10 days.

Glossing back over this thread - did she have the Terra Vet (Tetracycline) already, or was that another hen? Do you think she got a full course of that?

Do I give that by just using a syringe? Like dripping it into her beak?

I do not think so, I’m pretty sure she drinks outside where that is though, but I don’t think she had gotten a full dosage.

OK.

The Amoxicillin you order is a tablet (pill) right? Then you would just give her the pill or part of the pill depending on the dosage for her.
Do you know what mg you ordered and how much she weighs?

It says a capsule on the bottle, so I am assuming it’s not a tablet but like a powder inside the pill casing but I guess I’ll see when it gets here.

I ordered 500mg and I will weigh her before giving anything, but I’d say she’s about six pounds.

The powder in the capsules does not dissolve in water.

Do weigh her and let us know what that is, but let's look at your guess of 6 pounds.

For a 6lb hen the dose would be 342mg given twice a day. For this dose what I would do is open the 500mg capsule and mix it with 1 teaspoon coconut oil. Mix well. Divide that into 3 portions. Roll each portion to sort of be like a pill or something easy to swallow. Refrigerate or freeze those "pills" so the coconut oil hardens. You would give her 2 of the coconut pills twice a day for 7-10 days. 2 of those pills will equal approx. 333mg dose which is pretty close to what you would need for a 6lb hen.
Does that make sense?

I will weigh her when I go out to lock up tonight

Yes that does! Thank you very much for all your help I really appreciate it!

@Wyorp Rock I went out to give my littler babies some fresh water and I found Christina dead under the coop. I am quite miffed in fact, her comb was a purpley color, she was on her stomach with her wings slightly splayed. I found one of my ducks out (they have a separate pen next to the chickens divided with electro netting) and I am very worried that maybe he tried to mate with her and that killed her? None of the other birds were hurt. I am extremely upset, Christina was very very special to me, and I am angry at the ducks. If they did do that I don’t know what to do, it’s hard to keep them separate because they can fit through the fencing. The medicine was coming today and I was so excited because I thought she was going to get better. I’ll have to talk to my dad about a separate solution for the ducks, I thought this would work but I don’t trust them. I don’t really even know if I want to keep them anymore.
