So when should I worry about a chronic double yolker? Then hen in question I believe is 1 of my 1yr old hens. And to date I haven't had much luck with overall health and life expectancy of heavy layers (7+ days in a row) or chronic double yolkers (more then 2-3 doubles a week). So far in about 5 years of chickens I've lost 4 to laying issues 2 of my first 12 that where heavy layers and chronic broodies died between the ages of 1z2 years, also from my first 12 that was a chronic soft shell passed at about 2 years old. And most recently of 6 I added last year a chronic double turned soft shell turned lash. Now i have a new hen from the same 6 that is laying double. I haven't had doubles in 2 months since the prior hen pasted, but I know by the color these new doubles are from the same group of 6. I've had 2 double one each yesterday and today. I know there's really nothing i can do for her at this piont other then keep an eye on her. But should i worry about a 1 year old hen suddenly laying doubles? And at what piont should i start to worry? besides obviously if she start showing signs of other issues. Fyi the hen currently laying double is a cinnimon queen feed store purchase, ie sex link for laying.

Sex links are prone to double yolk eggs, and a shortened life due to reproductive problems. Double yolks only means multiple yolks are being released together, and it doesn't necessarily mean there's a current problem.

Thank you, I do know there's nothing technically wrong with then laying a double yolk. I'm just hoping it's the heat throwing her off and not something that will develop into a potential issue

I have heard of , but have not talked to a person that claims every egg his hens lay are doubles. The claim is he sets only double yolk eggs, and further clams all his hen lay only double yolk eggs.
I am not sure I believe any of that,,,,
I get doubles from some young girls for a while, but I dont have sex links, mine are EEs. They fry the same as the singles,,,
