I rescued a hen ...and older then I believe....she was found outdoors in downtown Rosemont by a friend who had watched her for several days roam around in a park. She has trimmed top beak which I hate when they do this to chickens.... so eating seems hard for her. I've been having to wet layer pellets and form a mash in a deep bowl so she can eat, she didn't seem like she was able to eat the pellets I have for my other hens. Shes a sweet hen. But seems to be old but in good health. Ive been keeping her separate from my flock of 7 chickens..she's in a temp coop in the garage. Ive had her around my girls a little bit at a time to try to introduce her into my flock but of course they fight. And she seems to,be the one starting fights mostly. Ive never had to integrate chicken into my flock so I'm scared . I know they need to establish the pecking order with any newcomers, its seems like this hen was top chicken or may have even been an indoor pet and was never around other Chickens. She does not dust bathe. She acts like an indoor chicken. My top hen pecked her in a fight and drew blood. She did not like her. I do not know if I will be able to integrate her into my flock. My girls are very precious to me and never fight with each other. Any ideas or help would be appreciated..I would like to be able to keep her if they get along, or if anyone is interested in taking her????? I am located in yorkville il

Hi! Not quite the same situation, but I had an older hen in my flock (who was always in the top of the pecking order) that was kicked out of the flock. They almost killed her. She became an indoor bird and seems to really enjoy being the princess of the house. If you’re able to do so, maybe this one can become an indoor bird too. Being inside isn’t necessarily a bad life, especially from the quality of life she probably had before you rescued her.

I wish I could help... But like others said, it'd be cool if she could be an indoor hen... Or hopefully someone nearby can take her...
Any pics? I've never seen a bird with a clipped beak... :( Why would someone do that??

Hello
Id love an indoor chicken pet. ❤ do you put her in diapers or?
I just hope they will accept her into the flock in a few more days when I start letting them be together more than just seeing each other from across the lawn. Baby steps. I pray all ends well

I tried putting her in diapers but she was really stressed out from it. Doesn’t hurt to try though! For introductions, I’d also suggest howdying them first. Put her in a smaller cage and allow the other birds access to inspect her while she’s in there. That way she can’t get hurt if they become aggressive. If you’re not seeing aggression, then you can move on to physical introductions again and let them all intermingle. The howdy phase may take a few days. My indoor hen has a play area set up with mats and a dirt bathing station. It’s just a dog pen that I bought at the pet store. I’ll take her outside with me too.
