Olive eggers? Ayam Cemani?

Well, if anyone states they are making a profit on these birds they are fooling themselves. I have somewhere around 5k in coops alone. Is there a profit in my future…I think not. However, my profit isn’t monetary; it is in the pleasure & joy of the hobby which you can’t put a price on.

I guarantee GFF made quite a profit. As did some breeders that got the first ones released.
I saw breeders even here that were advertising chicks and eggs for super high prices so I'm sure there were some making money just no one I know personally.
I'm just as sure there were probably 100 breeders that dreamed of riches but it didn't happen for them.
As you said your profit isn’t monetary and you have 5k invested in coops.
Someone looking to make money in poultry has a different mindset. They sure wouldn't spend 5k on a few coops. For 5k they would be putting up a building with many breeding pens.
I watched the ACs from the beganing and there was no doubt their appeal was monetary driven by the mast majority.

Have you priced building materials lately Moonshiner; obviously not? I use only the best building materials, pressure treated lumber, redwood, T1-11, etc. I build once & I build to last. I am getting much too old to worry about future repairs. Sure some folks can build a structure with several bins for 5k or less but some will be fighting to keep those upright for years to come. I have no problem with that & I never criticize others for what they do w/o just cause, but to criticize someone you know nothing about without exploring details quite frankly isn’t right.

Prime example of over priced juck is the TS stuff. Those things are paper thin & are better suited for dolls. Criticism warrented?

I've been a carpenter for 30 plus years and was building coops, hutches, dog houses etc. Since I could swing a hammer.
I built and sold coops for 3 or 4 years.
I know materials and material prices.
I would say sorry you felt I was criticizing you but truth is I don't because I wasn't criticizing you and dont know how you jumped to that conclusion.
My point was if someone is looking to buy some birds and breed them to turn a quick substantial profit then they wouldn't have the mindset to invest much money in housing for them unless it was something to house many many birds not just a few coops.

Moonshiner, perhaps we just got off on the wrong foot as they say & it looks like we have more in common than you might think. I started stringing wire when I was knee high to a grasshopper for my father who was an Electrical Contractor. Did that til I was 16. Bored with that I started framing with the builders (largest in the State) son’s til I was 19. Bored with that I became a General Contractor (GB 98) Residential & Commercial & been one ever since.

Now, the reason I took offense to your post is because it followed mine which was positive in every way toward Cemanis. Perhaps you could have used a little more tact leading into your get rich statement & I would have been ok with the rest of it because I too agree the greatest percentage of folks out there purchase these birds as a get rich quick scheme but again, I’m not one of them. In fact there is no way on God’s green earth I would pay anywhere close to what some folks are asking. GF or the other one out there who claims theirs are blacker then GF’s. Those prices are simply ridicules.

I acquired mine from a local individual who purchased his breeding pair from a lady in Colorado who purchased her's from GF. She had to sell the pair because the covenants in her neighborhood did not allow chickens. This local guy liked my pure breed Blue & Lavender Ameraucanas so we worked out a trade & we’re still trading. So to put this into perspective I paid $15 each for 2 wk old pure breed Ameraucanas. This confirms I did not, nor will I contribute to the get rich scheme most folks have fallen into by paying ridicules prices some breeders are asking. I will however continue to follow breeding advice from folks who know & if down the line I can make a buck or two to help supplement feed then I will have achieved my goal. Again, I did not get into this hobby to get rich but for the sheer enjoyment.
