My new girl, Wendigo, lays green eggs. She is supposed to be an Ameracauna, but since she lays green eggs, she is probably a cross between a brown and blue laying hen.
My RIR always lays brown eggs. Depending on what her treats her eggs may be lighter sometimes. My Americauna lays green eggs. She has not missed a day since she began laying about three weeks ago. Im waiting on the 5 i just bought to start laying!I have 2 Olive Eggers that I got from the same farm, they are the same age and one lays olive green eggs and the other lays chocolate brown eggs. I was even lucky enough to have them both start laying on the exact same day.![]()
The previous post from me is a picture of her third egg. It had a double yolk. She has not missed a day of laying even though it has been colder than usual. She has the sweetest disposition. Her "big sister", Lucy, a RIR, is more feisty. Both are vocal; Lucy has a high pitched voice and Wendigo has a deep, rich voice, she almost sounds like she has a cold!
Funny Story: Yesterday, I moved their tractor and run and they were out exploring. Wendi was walking around, scratching, and began squawking, looking around, and flapping her wings like something was scaring her. My dog was no where near her; he is little, only 10# and she has never seemed threatened by him. I walked over to her to find out what was wrong. I talked to her trying to calm her down and she started running. Lucy had scooted under an azalea bush and was hidden from her view. She couldn't see Lucy, and when she did, she started running with her wings flapping. It was humorous.
I never expected to have so much fun with my feathered friends.
You made me laugh! I was raised on a working farm. We had chickens and a mean rooster. The darn thing chased me when I was little and I have been afraid of them ever since. When my son moved backed home for a time, with Lucy, in tow, I was apprehensive. She is so much fun. And then, when he moved into a new apartment, of course, they wouldn't allow chickens so Lucy stayed. I built her a coop and a run and catered to her and made her treats.i couldnt agree more about never knowing how much i would enjoy having chickens! it was always my dream since i was really young and just became a reality last year. you wouldnt believe how much im laughed at and told how crazy i am. i seriously love my birds and enjoy having them way more than i ever imigined. and shockingly my absolute favorite bird ened up being a rooster! i was terrified of keeping a rooster just from all the horror stories people are so quick to tell. hes the absolute sweetest and i honestly carry him everywhere! mailbox, compost bin, even rides in our UTV with us! he is seriously as bad as a dog! i love your chickens name too!
