I hatched some eggs from a local woman who was selling them for eating. She had a Blue Orpington rooster and several different hens (Blue orpington, Lakenvelder, Rhode Island Red, White Leghorn, Ameraucanas, gold-laced Wyandottes, Lakenvelder were the ones I knew of). One of the eggs we incubated that hatched was a huge olive egg. The chick's down is grey with some yellow spots. Any idea, with the blue orp roo, which hen laid the olive egg?

Okay, then it would the the Ameraucana hen since I believe the hens are all purebred.

Thanks!

That means blue eggs from it if it's a hen? Or will they be olive as well?

Without getting in to the whole "what is an is not a pure breed Ameraucana" debate, my understanding is to get the dark olive color requires crossing with a chocolate egg breed.

Anyway, I believe any hen from that egg would probably lay ether a brown egg or some shade of green.
