We recently acquired a very beautiful 2 month old black silkie. Unfortunately she started to walk backwards and not eat during the first 24 hours at home. We suspected a brain trauma and started therapy with prednisone and vitamins. She really rallied and was so much better in a few days, eating and drinking on her own, even taking a few steps forward. But then she developed a sour crop and started the slow decline. I believe the steroids weaken the immune system and allow for growth of bacteria, virus, yeast...whatever happens along. So, despite all of the helpful information here on the forum and all of our best efforts, we euthanized Olivia tonight when she developed extremely difficult breathing.
Olivia was a beautiful, shiny black silkie...our first. And we miss her. But the 20 egglayer chicks in the brooder will keep us busy...
