Hi all you chicken lovers. I am a new member at Backyard Chickens.I am getting organized to have a backyard coop. I was wondering if there is anyone who builds coops in the Chattanooga, Lookout Mountain area. I have found a facebook site for Smokey Mountain Chicken Tractors whose coops look very good and sturdy for very good prices, but I am afraid the transport from Knoxville will be costly.

Hi, welcome to BYC!

You might be able to find someone through the state threads. Here is a link to get you there:

Once you have 20 posts (and they add up quickly) you can use the buy-sell-trade section, maybe someone there builds them:

If you can't find anyone suitable to build you a coop, there have been several examples of members building their own (even without previous building experience). A coop can be made out of a variety of materials like pallets, old playhouses, recycled materials found on Craigslist or habitat for humanity stores. You may even find someone around you that has a coop they aren't using any more so check your newspaper.

Good luck to you. Nice to have you here!

NorthFLChick has given you some great sites to check out. Good luck. I was lucky and had my hubby build mine. And, a smaller one for a grow out pen. He loves working with wood.
Have fun looking and have fun with your chickens! A lot of eggs for breakfast coming up!

Glad you joined us at Backyard chickens -
