I'm wanting to increase the Omega 3's in my chicken's diet to get more Omega-3 rich eggs. There is Omega-3 Egg maker available at the farm store that can be added to feed, however my girls don't eat all that much feed. A good part of their diet comes from bugs, grass, etc. Do you think it would be ok for me to offer the Omega 3 egg maker by setting it out alone (not mixed with feed per the directions on the package)? Or perhaps I should change the ratio of Omega Maker to feed? If the feed only makes up half or less than half their diet, they won't get as much of the Omega 3's as I'm wanting them to have.

I would price out flax seed vs. the Egg Maker in your area to find out which would be more cost effective. Flax is high in Omega 3s, so if it's cheaper I'd just go with that.

So would you just put out a little for them to munch on in the yard?

You could feed it as a treat or just mix it in their feed. Any amount is going to get extra omegas in them, so I wouldn't worry about them needing to consume a ton of it.
