OMG!! Had the worst experience in the world! Noticed an odd smell in the room with the incubators,so I opened them briefly to check on the eggs. When I opened it I was instantly greeted by the most HORRID smell you could imagine!

I had been lucky all this time to never have this happen before.I always check the eggs after about a week in to make sure everything looks good. These eggs had been in less than a week.

It was some that was shipped to me. I removed over 2 dozen eggs from the bator. While dealing with this a couple of them had actually cracked underneath and when we touched the egg, Horrible black green ugghhh just poured on top of my foot!!! Obviously some of the eggs were much older than they were supposed to be.While candling I find many more totally black inside and lots halfway black.(all of the others of mine set at the same time were just light spidering)so I had something to compare to...I was (and still am) terribly upset

that someone would send eggs like that. I mean I spent a lot of money on those eggs.I have only shipped eggs that were collected over the weekend for Monday shipping, but I have hatched older eggs for myself,as I keep them cool and turned everyday, with success. So I know the stretch of good eggs....

How many of you guys have had experiences like this? What would you do?

YES, it has happened to me! I contacted the BYC seller and got absolutely NOTHING! It was my second hatch ever. My first was some barnyard mutts to practice the art of incubation before spending a wad of money. I spent the money, had poorly packaged eggs shipped in a tiny box, got rotten eggs, hatched ONE, and that was not even the breed I ordered!

OH YES! I can relate! So sorry you are experiencing this.

Unpacked 38 duck eggs.. 4 were rotten from the start and I just threw out a dozen that were black and stinking. Day 5...yuck.first time for me too....I guess it happens; but I haven't figured out how....I've never Had a stinky egg from ours.

Had it happen once, they werent black but extremely pourous and I had stinkers 2 days in. Time to contact the seller.

If you buy eggs just make sure its from a good seller, check feedback, there are many awesome sellers here on BYC.

You have to realize that your first time out, it may be good, bad or ugly. With shipped eggs, if you get a 50% hatch rate you are doing GREAT!!!! And it has nothing to do with you either. It is the shipping that disturbs and destroys.
