Well of course, here in Wichita we have the Arkansas River - as in Ar-Kansas, not Arkansaw! And we have Greenwich Road, which people here pronounce as Green Witch, not "Grenitch" like Greenwich, CT. I did once see a CL ad for "roadilandred" chickens. It took me quite awhile to figure out what those were....

I was born in Syracuse Kansas, If I had slipped out of the doctors arms at delivery, I would have landed in the Ar-Kansas River. Them there other fellas can go get their own river.
The one that always got me was a place called Big Well. with the mid west accent it always came out as Big Whale. kids are always disappointed to find nothing but a big hole in the ground when they finally get there. Of course it is a mighty impressive hole.
