Our power went out for about 12 hours on our 5 day along incubating duck eggs. What's your alls opinion?? I'm so sad. It's my first batch

Sorry about your power loss, I'd go ahead and keep incubating anyways - some might have survived. Good Luck!

Don't get sad yet. Lots of people have had outtages during incubation (some for 24 hours) and have still had decent-good hatch rates. Keep 'em in there, do your day 7 candling and hopefully you'll see lots of developed eggs. Don't be surprised if they don't start hatching right at day 20/21, a lack of consistant adequate heat can slow things down a bit. Good luck and I hope you have lots of survivors!

Think of it this way...the incubator didn't immediately get cold..nor did the eggs. It took time for this to happen and then the power came back on. I had a 5 hour delay when I hatched the chicks in the incubator the first time, and I still got healthy chicks. Just continue on..It is like the momma getting up to eat and drink, eggs don't automatically die after they start..from what I understand is that it takes a few days for this to happen..not hours.

I freaked out the first time that I saw the hen off of her eggs and then really freaked when the eggs were cold..I got the best hatching rate even after this! Nature has ways of protecting the growing duckling!
